Employment Specialist ~ Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist ~ Job Coach

Join the Transformation Team at Prospectus Berco!

Transform your career while transforming the lives of individuals with special needs.

Full-time with benefits

Starting pay up to $43,000

Employment Specialists work to achieve employment readiness and success in individuals with special needs. They provide support in three employment phases; Development, Placement, and Supported Services. During Development, Employment Specialists assess an individual’s interests and align them with their skills and talents. Then they help individuals apply for jobs and prepare for interviews to achieve Employment Placement. Once hired, an Employment Specialist will work alongside the individual, train them to do the job, and coach them to complete tasks to the satisfaction of the employer/supervisor. Over time, the supervision needed decreases as the person becomes competent in performing their job. The emphasis of this final phase, Supported Services, is to ensure both the employee and employer are happy with the employment relationship.

Employment Specialists may also suggest ways to adapt the work area or tasks so individuals can complete work successfully and independently. They will also be responsible for identifying suitable job sites by following up on leads and making contacts through networking activities. Since getting to work is critical to employment success, Employment Specialists may also teach the person how to use public transportation.

Requirements

Becoming an Employment Specialist requires the following:

A Bachelor’s Degree in vocational rehabilitation, human resources, social services, or a related field plus a minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with special needs; OR an Associate’s degree with at least four years of  related experience.

Fully vaccinated for Covid-19.

A Valid PA driver’s license.

The flexibility and availability to work evenings and weekends as needed based on the supported individual’s scheduled work hours.

The ability to objectively gather and interpret behavioral observations and use assessment tools.

Achievement of certification from the Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE) or the APSE CESP credential. Candidates who are not yet certified and offered employment must achieve certification through company-paid training within 6 months of their hire date.

Personal qualities that will help you excel in this job include reliability and accountability, honesty and trustworthiness, cultural competence, a preference to communicate and work collaboratively, innovation, compassion, patience, and flexibility.
