40th Anniversary Events

 1977-2017
There’s No Place Like Home

Prospectus Berco was incorporated as a non-profit corporation on March 14, 1977, and in 2017 we are celebrating our 40th Anniversary.  The theme for the 40th Anniversary, There’s No Place Like Home, was selected because for many participants in our programs, Prospectus Berco has become their home.  Curiously, the traditional 40th anniversary gift is ruby, and we all know about Dorothy’s ruby slippers!

40th Anniversary Gala

The climax of our 40th Anniversary celebration will be the 40th Anniversary Gala to be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the DoubleTree Reading.  A spectacular evening is planned starting at 6 p.m.  The evening begins with an open cocktail hour followed with dinner fit for the great and powerful OZ!  A silent auction will be conducted throughout the evening where you will be certain to find some treasures to bid upon.  Erich Cawalla’s Uptown Band will be providing the musical entertainment, and we are sure to hear a rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. A photo booth will allow you and your friends a memorable souvenir of your Oz evening

We are also running a very special raffle for a 6 night all-inclusive trip to Mexico’s Riviera Maya n the fine-sand beach of Playa Paraíso.  Courtesy of Boscov’s Travel & Apple Vacations, this trip will be at the all-inclusive, five-star resort of Iberostar Paraíso Lindo and includes airfare and air taxes.  Tickets are $50 each or 3 for $100.  Drawing will take place the night of the gala, but you need not be present to win!

T-shirt Days

40th Anniversary T-shirts depicting this year’s theme were purchased by many of employees and program participants at the beginning of the year to celebrate this milestone.  We kicked off the celebration on January 5, 2017 when the Leadership Berks Core Class visited the agency for the day.

Visit us on the following days, and you will likely start singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow!

Victoria and Dale Derr offered a stirring and heartwarming account of how rewarding and enjoyable Victoria’s life is as she and her family focus on her accomplishments.

May 4th Open House

Approximately 60 guests attended the 40th Anniversary Open House on Thursday, May 4, 2017 held at 1800 Kutztown Road in the Event Room.  The Berks Sinfonietta represented by a string quartet provided music as guests entered.  Richard Aulenbach offered opening remarks; followed by proclamations by Monica Reyes, representative of Sen. Judy Schwank and Rep. Mark Rozzi; a presentation by Dale Derr and Victoria Derr; and closing remarks by Jody Wagner.

Dale Derr shared Victoria’s story that when she was born and diagnosed with Down syndrome, the doctor recommended institutionalization.  He and his wife, Susan, chose to bring Victoria home, and Victoria is living a full and enriching life with the blessing of her parents and the programs at Prospectus Berco.

Tours were conducted after the presentations allowing guests who never visited Prospectus Berco an opportunity to learn more about what we offer.  Our doors are always open to visitors who want to learn more about our mission.
